In February of 2016, NSF BIO Division of Environmental Biology (DEB) Division Director Paula Mabee, Program Officer David Mindell, and Science Associate Karen Alroy traveled to China. The purpose of trip was to visit key scientific stakeholders and facilities within Guangdong province, prime the biodiversity and systematics research communities in the United States and China for collaborative and integrative research, and strengthen NSF connections with the National Natural Science Foundation of China (NSFC) through participation in a jointly funded workshop and field visits in western Guangdong province (see related post).

Meeting and discussion at the South China Sea Institute of Oceanology (SCSIO), Chinese Academy of Sciences (CAS), 2/23/2016. Meeting was hosted by ZHANG Changsheng (Director, Research and Planning Department, SCSIO), meeting participants included TANG Danling (Professor, Remote Sensing), DONG Jun-de (Professor, Coral Reef ecology, Hainan Tropical Marine Biological Research Station), HUANG Hui (Head, Hainan Tropical Marine Biological Research Station), HUANG Xiaoping (Head, Dept. Marine Ecology), and WANG Xiaoxue (Professor, Microbial Toxin/Anti-toxin systems).

达尔豪斯大学申锦瑜、隋艺来南海海洋所开展合作研究

应中科院热带海洋环境国家重点实验室LTO唐丹玲和周伟东研究员邀请,加拿大达尔豪斯大学(Dalhousie University)物理海洋学院海洋系申锦瑜教授携其博士研究生隋艺于2015年4月20日至5月30日来南海海洋研究所LTO开展合作研究和交流。

申锦瑜教授携隋艺来访,是作为项目骨干成员参加国家自然科学基金重点项目有关台风对南海海洋浮游植物及生态因素影响的遥感与模型研究,访问期间,他们与项目组唐丹玲、周伟东等深入研讨了南海台风-生物-物理耦合模型的重要因素,初步构建了模型框架,推进了基金项目开展。

访问期间,申锦瑜、隋艺还与LTO学者进行了广泛交流,并指导青年科技人员熟悉和掌握多重嵌套数值模拟模型。4月30日,申锦瑜教授和隋艺分别作了题为"Process Study of the Hydrodynamic Response in the Upper Ocean to a Hurricane"和"Numerical Study of Circulation, Dispersion and Hydrodynamic Connectivity over the Scotian Shelf"的报告,汇报项目进展。报告会由唐丹玲主持,周伟东、彭世球、管玉平研究员以及等40多名科研人员及研究生参加。5月24日,申锦瑜教授还作为答辩委员参加了海洋环境生态遥感学科组的博士论文答辩会,帮助指导研究生。

申锦瑜目前担任RET(极端海洋事件模式与预测国际研究合作组织)首席科学家、国际河口与海岸带模型咨询委员会顾问。在国际期刊和会议上发表论文230余篇, 为知名海洋模型研究专家。

应热带海洋国家重点实验室(LTO)、中国科学院南海海洋研究所海洋环境生态遥感研究中心(RSMEE)唐丹玲教授邀请,日本Japan Agency for Marine Earth-Science and Technology (JAMSTEC)研究所EKO Siswanto教授于2015年8-9月在南海海洋研究所进行了为期一个多月的访问研究。
访问期间,EKO Siswanto教授与LTO进行广泛交流,参与了多次讲课和学术报告会议,参加了8月LTO南海海洋研究所等共同主办的“第5届印度洋-南海海洋遥感与台风科学国际研讨会”,并参与了唐丹玲博士承担的研究项目。
9月17号,EKO Siswanto教授在南海海洋研究所作学术报告“Atmospheric deposition - Another possible source of nutrients enhancing primary productivity in the eastern tropical Indian Ocean during positive Indian Ocean Dipole Phases”,介绍了运用遥感的方法,从海洋生态响应和海洋营养物质源的角度,提出了增强东印度洋初级生产力的可能因素,同时通过多时相的遥感数据结果比对,进一步证实上升流和火灾对1997年东印度洋苏答猎岛西部沿岸的初级生产力增强效应。9月23日,EKO教授还与来访的加拿大达尔豪斯大学的申锦瑜教授、LTO周伟东教授以及生态环境遥感实验室全体人员进行学术交流,并就互惠合作交流意向进行了深入讨论和计划。



Eko Siswanto博士在日本长崎大学获海洋科学专业博士学位,现为国际知名海洋研究机构、日本研究水平最好的海洋地球研究所 Japan Agency for Marie-Earth Science and Technology(JMST)-日本海洋科学与技术局研究员。他长期从事海洋生态遥感领域的研究工作。作为主要负责人参与“亚太全球变化研究网络”等研究项目,与南海海洋研究所唐丹玲教授有长期合作。并作为成员之一,与唐丹玲共同申请获得2015年广东省外国专家局高端外国专家团队项目。

The 2004 Indian Ocean tsunami is one of the greatest tsunami that happened in the past 100 years. This tsunami has been suggested to have long-lasting effects on chemical, physical, biological and ecological conditions in the Bay of Bengal and adjacent waters. The atmosphere and ocean act as one interdependent system and are coupled by complicated feedback components. Due to large displacement and strong vertical mixing of the ocean water caused by this tsunami, the tsunami-enhanced turbulent vertical mixing should also affect the air-sea heat exchange and the ocean surface boundary layer properties, and may finally lead to the modulation of some local atmospheric conditions.



Recently, a work completed by the team of Prof. Danling Tang of LTO, in South China Sea Institute of Oceanography, examined the effects of the 2004 Indian Ocean tsunami on the local atmospheric and oceanographic conditions in the southern Bay of Bengal and adjacent Indian Ocean waters based on the satellite remote sensing data and atmospheric reanalysis fields data. They found that, after the tsunami, the accumulated rainfall had a notably increase (600 mm per month) in January of 2005 over deep waters to the southeast of Sri Lanka. This rainfall increase after the tsunami was accompanied with cooling in the sea surface temperature (SST) (up to -2oC). Four-day averaged SST anomalies had a noticeable increase (1-4oC) after the tsunami over the deep waters to the southwest of the epicenter. Series of ocean atmospheric and biological variables changed successively after the change of SST. The chain of causality between the tsunami and the changes in the local atmospheric conditions has also been suggested.



The study is among the first one that trying to elucidate the connections between the tsunami and the changes of local atmospheric and oceanographic conditions based on an air-sea interaction perspective. The paper has been published on a SCI journal: Zhongzhen Yan, Yi Sui, Jinyu Sheng, and DanlingTang*, 2015, Changes in local oceanographic and atmospheric conditions shortly after the 2004 Indian Ocean tsunami. 英国University of Exeter海洋科学代表团访问南海所

应中科院南海海洋研究所LTO唐丹玲教授邀请,英国University of Exeter海洋科学代表团一行4人于2014年12月中旬访问南海海洋研究所。王东晓副所长与代表团会面。
代表团成员包括Lars Johanning教授,Philipp Thies博士、Sarah Crowley博士、和William Micklethwaite等。访问期间代表团参加了 南海海洋研究所举办的“第五次台风灾害及其生态影响研讨会”,参观了LTO,与南海海洋研究所学者进行广泛讨论。唐丹玲教授和Lars Johanning教授分别介绍了各自研究单位和研究教学情况和最新研究成果。

双方专门就共同承担的英联合基金项目“Energy absorbing mooring systems: Risk-based investigation for high intensity typhoon conditions in China(EP/M019942/1;)进行深入讨论。该英联合基金合作项目由英国工程和物理科学研究理事会和中英研究委员会、牛顿基金等联合资助,旨在加强双方科研交流,由Philipp Thies 博士和DanLing Tang共同主持。海洋环境生态遥感中心宋勇军、叶海军、王素芬、潘刚等参加了项目交流。

埃克斯特大学成立于1855年,位于英格兰西南的德文郡首府埃克斯特市,在英国各种主流媒体的大学排名中都位列前十。

唐丹玲当选COSPAR空间研究委员会-A2海洋生产力专业委员会副主席

COSPAR于2014年8月2日至2014年8月11日在莫斯科召开40th COSPAR Scienti c Assembly。中科院南海海洋研究所唐丹玲当选A2海洋生产力遥感专业委员会副主席(2014-2018),为该专业委员会中唯一中国学者。唐丹玲曾经担任上一届A2副主席(2010-2014)。
唐丹玲参加了40 th COSPAR,主持了A2会议, 并作报告"Response of phytoplankton and dissolved
oxygen and related marine ecological parameters to typhoon tropical cyclone in the oceans。A2有200多个口头学术报告,100多个墙报。

唐丹玲还应邀为 COSPAR在Tver State University举办的会前国际遥感培训(能力建设)Program of the COSPAR Capacity Building Workshop (CBW) and WMO Training Course on
satellite remote sensing and climate change (7月20-8月1号)授课。

空间研究委员会COSPAR成立于1958年,为国际科协重要成员,是国际上空间研究领域的最高学术组织。下一届COOSPAR将在土耳其举办。

我国将再造三颗新型海洋卫星

  本报讯(实习记者 刘潇然)记者从12月23日在京召开的“海洋一号C/D”卫星和新一代海洋水色观测卫星研制工作启动会上获悉,航天东方红卫星有限公司将为国家海洋局研制3颗新型海洋卫星,并将于2015年正式启动。
  据悉,“海洋一号C/D”卫星能连续获取全球海洋水色水温资料,我国及全球重点区域近海和海岸带环境变化数据,以及海上浮标、船只信息等,支持海洋水色环境监测业务化、连续化运行,可以为海洋环境预报、海洋灾害预警与海洋科学研究提供服务。
  新一代海洋水色观测卫星可以提高我国海洋水色观测卫星空间分辨率、光谱分辨率,提升探测精度,拓展探测谱段,实现全球快速覆盖的海洋水色观测能力,提升我国海洋遥感卫星应用水平,促进我国海洋水色遥感业务持续、稳定运行。
  “海洋一号B”卫星于2007年正式在轨运行,作为我国目前在轨的唯一一颗海洋水色观测卫星,已在轨稳定运行近8年,超期服役近5年,获取全球各类水色图像数据17000余景,肩负着国产化海洋水色业务连续运行的重任。随着服役时间增加,卫星轨道逐步漂移、性能逐步衰退、部件逐渐失效,“海洋一号B”卫星将无法满足后续工作需要。作为“海洋一号B”卫星的接替星,“海洋一号C/D”卫星被纳入到首批启动的业务卫星计划中,新一代海洋水色观测卫星也已于今年9月完成立项评估,并将进入工程先期攻关阶段。
