In the frame of a French oceanographic programme, the vertical distribution of heterotrophic prokaryotes (HP) was investigated in the water column, down to 1100 m, every 3 hours through periods of 36 hours.
HP abundance and viability was directly assessed on board by flow cytometry.In the epipelagic layer, HP were essentially present in the upper 80 m layer. Peaks of HP abundance observed below the 80 m level corresponded to abundance troughs at about 50 m depth in the associated vertical profiles. One permanent peak of HP abundance was observed around 500 m depth, a layer occupied by micro-zooplankton undergoing diel vertical migrations. Deeper peaks of HP abundance were also observed in the mesopelagic realm, and their occurrence was not periodic, in contrast with the initial hypothesis (Denis et al., 2003). These peaks of HP abundance also corresponded to peaks of respiratory activity whose occurrence was initially detected in the late 80s (Savenkof et al., 1993). It is hypothesised that these HP abundance peaks are essentially generated at the surface layer by auto-aggregation and sinking of transparent exopolymer particles (TEP) colonised by HP. The consequences of such a pulsed exportation will be presented and discussed.

In February of 2016, NSF BIO Division of Environmental Biology (DEB) Division Director Paula Mabee, Program Officer David Mindell, and Science Associate Karen Alroy traveled to China. The purpose of trip was to visit key scientific stakeholders and facilities within Guangdong province, prime the biodiversity and systematics research communities in the United States and China for collaborative and integrative research, and strengthen NSF connections with the National Natural Science Foundation of China (NSFC) through participation in a jointly funded workshop and field visits in western Guangdong province (see related post).

Meeting and discussion at the South China Sea Institute of Oceanology (SCSIO), Chinese Academy of Sciences (CAS), 2/23/2016. Meeting was hosted by ZHANG Changsheng (Director, Research and Planning Department, SCSIO), meeting participants included TANG Danling (Professor, Remote Sensing), DONG Jun-de (Professor, Coral Reef ecology, Hainan Tropical Marine Biological Research Station), HUANG Hui (Head, Hainan Tropical Marine Biological Research Station), HUANG Xiaoping (Head, Dept. 应中科院南海海洋研究所LTO唐丹玲教授邀请,英国University of Exeter海洋科学代表团一行4人于2014年12月中旬访问南海海洋研究所。王东晓副所长与代表团会面。
代表团成员包括Lars Johanning教授,Philipp Thies博士、Sarah Crowley博士、和William Micklethwaite等。访问期间代表团参加了 南海海洋研究所举办的“第五次台风灾害及其生态影响研讨会”,参观了LTO,与南海海洋研究所学者进行广泛讨论。唐丹玲教授和Lars Johanning教授分别介绍了各自研究单位和研究教学情况和最新研究成果。

LTO 海洋环境生态遥感中心
应罗马尼亚国家海洋研究与发展研究所的邀请,中国科学院南海海洋所、热带海洋环境国家重点实验室唐丹玲研究员于2014年12月2日至14日访问了罗马尼亚国家海洋研究与发展研究所(National Institute for Marine Research and Development "Grigore Antipa",Romania)等科研单位。
唐丹玲博士参加了在康斯坦察市举办的“Space Technologies for the Sustainable Development of the Black Sea Marine and Coastal Region”和“International Workshop of Daya Bay and Mamaia Bay -Remote Sensing Technologies on Marine Ecological Research”两个学术研讨会,并做大会报告,讨论海洋环境与海洋生态遥感,对比分析了玛玛亚湾(黑海西岸)与大亚湾海域(南海北部)的环境因子、浮游植物群落等分布特征;对比分析两个区域的人类活动与环境生态变化趋势。与罗马尼亚国家海洋研究与发展研究所所长Simion NICOLAEV教授、合作项目负责人Laura Boicenco博士等就进一步合作研究进行了深入讨论。
唐丹玲还应邀参加了“Competence Center for Space Technologies in Constanta”的开幕仪式,访问了位于图尔恰市(Tulcea)的多瑙河三角洲国家研究所(Danube Delta National Institute for Research and Development)、罗马尼亚国家海洋研究与发展研究所驻玛玛亚湾的监测站、和多瑙河三角洲自然博物馆等,并做学术报告、广泛交流。罗马尼亚科学家对于卫星遥感和遥感在环境生态方面的应用很感兴趣,希望与中国科学家有更多合作。康斯坦察(Constanta TV)电视台和罗马尼亚电台(Radio Romania)等媒体专门采访了全球海洋遥感协会主席唐丹玲教授,并做了多个新闻报道。

12月18-19日,中科院南海海洋研究所海洋环境生态遥感中心主办的国际研讨会“International workshop of Energy absorbing mooring systems: Risk-based investigation for high intensity typhoon conditions”在广州召开。

研讨会由唐丹玲研究员担任主席。英国Lars Johanning教授、Philipp Thies博士、Sarah Crowley博士、William Micklethwaite,和美国西北研究所Gad Levy教授等科学家和国内学者参加了研讨会,就“海洋可再生能源研究进展”,“能量吸收锚定系统研究:基于强台风条件下中国海风险的调查”“台风生态指数研究”,“台风等海洋灾害的生态影响”等专题进行报告。唐丹玲特别报告了遥感技术在气候变化/自然灾害对海洋生态系统影响研究中的应用,并介绍了“遥感海洋生态”这个新的交叉学科的国际进展。与会人员围绕台风条件下能量吸收锚定系统开发研究进行了热烈讨论和交流,加深了对台风状态下海洋能源利用关键因子的认识。

报告人简介:加拿大达尔豪斯大学(Dalhousie University)物理海洋学院教授,LRET(极端海洋事件模式与预测国际研究合作组织)首席科学家、加拿大气象与物理海洋协会(CMOS)会员、美国地球物理协会(AGU)会员、美国气象协会(AMS)会员、国际河口与海岸带模型咨询委员会(ECM)顾问、河海大学兼职教授。
申教授1981年获得河海大学学士学位,1985年和1990年分别获得加拿大纪念大学物理海洋专业硕士、博士学位。 1999年至今年在加拿大达尔豪斯大学任助理教授、副教授和教授。Journal of Geophysical Research、Journal of Physical Oceanography等十几种国际知名期刊审稿专家,同时是加拿大、美国、英国和挪威自然科学与工程研究项目评审专家。
主持加拿大NCE、NASA、NSERC、LRET、DFO等加拿大和其他国际机构项目29项。 已在国际SCI杂志发表87篇。在各种国际会议上发表论文90余篇。

申锦瑜教授, 加拿大纽芬兰纪念大学博士,加拿大达尔豪斯大学Dalhousie海洋系教授,LRET极端海洋事件模式与预测国际研究合作组织首席科学家. 2013年被聘为河海学者。

海洋生态与环境遥感学科组博士研究生孙景,于2014年9月参加了“International Oil Spill Response Technical Seminar国际溢油应急技术研讨会”, 并以墙报论文《Radarsat2 and Landsat8 Satellite Remote Sensing Detections of Oil Spills in the South China Sea》与会老师、同学交流。
2014年国际溢油应急技术研讨会是国际上第一届针对溢油事件应急处理的大型综合研讨会,由国际海事组织(IMO)、国际石油工业环境保护协会(IPIECA)和中国海事局(China MSA)主办,于9月2日-3日在山东烟台召开。旨在为政府和企业家合作提供平台,帮助各国提高溢油应急防备与反应能力。此次会议在规范管理海洋石油运输与开采,预防溢油事件;溢油事件检测技术、溢油平台修复技术和处理海上溢油油污技术等方面进行了交流和合作。会议期间,世界上溢油方面的专家和学者齐聚烟台,作了精彩的报告,也有深刻的讨论。

11月5-9日,第11届全球海洋遥感大会(PORSEC 2012)在印度南部滨海城市科钦(Kochi)召开,中科院南海海洋研究所唐丹玲研究员上任全球海洋遥感协会(PORSEC)主席,任期2012-2016。唐丹玲于2010年的第10届全球海洋遥感大会当选为PORSEC主席,侯任主席期为2010-2012. 唐丹玲是第一位中国学者担任PORSEC主席。
本次PORSEC大会由印度国家海洋信息服务中心(INCOIS)承办,会议主题是“Ocean Remote Sensing for Wellbeing of All”。来自于25个国家和地区的544位科学家参与了本次大会。南海海洋研究所唐丹玲研究员、潘刚博士、硕士研究生林静柔等出席会议,并做口头报告和墙报展示。
会前,PORSEC和印度中央渔业技术研究所(CIFT)还联合举办了面向青年科技人员和研究生的国际海洋遥感培训班。 受唐丹玲推荐,硕士研究生林静柔获得资助参加了培训班。
